Travelling to Us for Hijama

The hijama room at the HAWA Fairfax Community Center, Fair Lakes

Clients have driven to us from Maryland, North Carolina and Pennsylvania. If you are thinking of making the trip, this page is the plain version of what to plan.

Book first, then plan the drive

We are by appointment only. There are no walk-ins, so please do not set off until you have a confirmed booking. Book online: pick the session, the practitioner (a woman for sisters, a man for brothers) and the time. A $55 deposit holds the slot and comes off the price on the day.

How far it is

Rough clear-road drives to Fair Lakes, from each city centre, by OpenStreetMap routing, checked in October 2026:

  • Silver Spring, MD: about 29 miles, 42 minutes, by the Beltway and I-66
  • Baltimore, MD: about 60 miles, 1 hour 20 minutes, by I-95, the Beltway and I-66
  • Harrisburg, PA: about 126 miles, 2 hours 50 minutes, by US 15, I-270, the Beltway and I-66
  • Philadelphia, PA: about 158 miles, 3 hours 25 minutes, by I-95, the Beltway and I-66
  • Raleigh, NC: about 257 miles, 5 hours 15 minutes, by I-85 and I-95, then Route 123 north into Fairfax

Traffic around Washington changes these a lot. The Beltway and I-66 are slowest at the weekday commute, so a midday or weekend slot is the one to aim for if you are coming a long way.

Plan the day

Allow about an hour and a half for brothers and two hours for sisters at the practice, on top of your drive. A few screening questions come first, then the session. Eat a light meal a few hours before; the whole list of what to eat, wear and bring is in how to prepare for hijama.

After the session, take a rest before a long drive home rather than going straight back on the road. The cup marks fade on their own; how long the marks last explains what to expect.

How often

For most people, once every three months. Some come monthly for the first three months, then once a quarter. If you are travelling a long way, we can talk through what makes sense for you when you book.

Who you will see, and what it costs

A woman practitioner for sisters, a man for brothers, in a private room, with a sterile single-use kit. Wet cupping (hijama) is $135, dry cupping $115 (prices in full).

Hijama is a traditional practice and is not a substitute for medical care. If you are on medication, pregnant, or unsure for any reason, speak to your doctor first and say so at intake.
